Classic children's movie THE NEVERENDING STORY is set for a remake.
The 1984 fantasy, based on the German book of the same name, was directed by Wolfgang Petersen and starred Barret Oliver and Noah Hathaway.
It went on to spawn two sequels, 1990's The NeverEnding Story II: The Next Chapter, and 1996's The NeverEnding Story 3: Escape From Fantasia.
Movie executives at Warner Bros. and the Kennedy/Marshall Co. are now in talks to bring the tale up to date for a new generation of cinema goers.
The film is almost half an hour longer than 'The Force Awakens'.
The film is expected to continue without Mendes' involvement.
