The Suicide Squad sequel is close to landing a new screenwriter in The Legend of Tarzan's Adam Cozad.
Cozad is in final negotiations to tackle the script for the follow-up to the blockbuster, which was a critical flop last year (16).
David Ayer wrote and directed the 2016 movie, which featured Will Smith, Margot Robbie, and Jared Leto and grossed $745 million (GBP606 million) worldwide.
Ayer will not be returning for the sequel, prompting studio bosses to offer the gig to a host of top directors, including Mel Gibson, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
As well as The Legend of Tarzan, which also featured Robbie, Cozad co-wrote 2014's Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit.
