New animated movie The Boxtrolls has shot straight to the top of the U.K. box office chart.

The film, which features the voices of Elle Fanning and Sir Ben Kingsley, tells the story of an orphan who is raised by underground creatures known as the Boxtrolls. The fantasy-comedy brought in ticket sales of $3.2 million (£2 million) on its opening weekend (12-14Sep14), knocking Scarlett Johansson's Lucy into second place with $1.3 million (£812,073).

Pride, a British drama film entered the charts in third place with $1.2 million (£718,778).

Last weekend's (05-07Sep14) number one Sex Tape dropped to four with sales of $1.1 million (£673,478), while new thriller movie A Most Wanted Man landed a disappointing debut with $976,499 (£610,312) to score fifth place.
