Alonzo Knowles, 23, was arrested in New York City on Monday (21Dec15) following a sting operation which allegedly caught him attempting to sell sensitive information to an undercover agent.

He has been charged with copyright infringement and identity theft for allegedly accessing the online accounts of around 130 celebrities.

Prosecutors claim Knowles stole unreleased scripts for TV shows and movies, private pictures and videos, and social security numbers, as well as around 30 tracks from a musician's upcoming album.

Preet Bharara, United States attorney for the Southern District of New York, says in a statement, "This case has all of the elements of the kind of blockbuster script the defendant, Alonzo Knowles, is alleged to have stolen: hacks into celebrities' private emails, identity theft, and attempts to sell victims' information to the highest bidder. Unfortunately, these circumstances are all too real."

Knowles appeared court in Manhattan on Tuesday (22Dec15) and was remanded in custody. He faces 10 years behind bars if he is convicted of all charges.
