Russian singing icon IRINA ARKHIPOVA has died at the age of 85.
The opera star suffered a cardiac arrest on Thursday (11Feb10) and passed away at Moscow's Botkin hospital, according to Nadezhda Khachaturova, the director of the Arkhipova Foundation.
The mezzo-soprano performed at the Bolshoi theatre for decades during the Soviet-era and became best known for her lead roles in Bizet's Carmen and Giuseppe Verdi's Aida.
Arkhipova will be laid to rest on Saturday (13Feb10) at the Novodevichy cemetery in Moscow.
She is survived by her husband, grandson and great granddaughter.
The actor says he isn't "holding out for more money or doing anything like that".
The drama will be making its return to the streaming service in the near future.
