South African soul veteran Sipho Mabuse has graduated high school at the age of 60.
The legendary musician, nicknamed Hotstix for his impressive drumming skills, turned his back on his education as a teenager in the 1960s, but he decided to hit the books once more and enrolled in adult education classes near his Soweto home last year (11).
He learned he had passed his exams last week (27Jul12), but Mabuse admits it was no easy task.
In a Twitter.com post, he writes, "I needed my matric (high school diploma) to feel complete even with all my musical success .45 years out of class is no childs (sic) play".
Mabuse's academic success has even earned him high praise from South African President Jacob Zuma, who tells the star, "You are indeed an inspiration to all of us by showing us that one is never too old for education. We admire your tenacity, discipline and your zeal to succeed and wish you well in all your future endeavours".
The artist is now considering taking his education further to study anthropology.
