The one-time The Left Banke bandmember died on Thursday (19Mar15) after suffering heart failure at his home in New Jersey.

The son of violinist Harry Lookofsky was just 16 when he co-wrote the band's huge hit Walk Away Renee for The Left Banke's debut album Walk Away Renee/Pretty Ballerina, which was released in 1967.

He quit the group a year later, before the release of the pop stars' sophomore project, Left Banke Too. The remaining members split in 1969.

Brown went on to work with the band Montage, and later formed Stories and The Beckies.

The Left Banke stars reunited for a one-off performance in their native New York in 2012.
