The 75-year-old former sportsman, who was part of England's 1966 World Cup-winning squad, fell ill on Sunday (03May15).

In a statement, his family says, "Football legend Jimmy Greaves suffered a severe stroke on Sunday 3 May, and is in intensive care in hospital. His wife, Irene, and four children have asked for privacy during what is a worrying time for the family. They will issue a bulletin on his condition when it is appropriate."

Greaves, England's fourth highest international goal-scorer, suffered a minor stroke in 2012.
