British soccer legend PAUL GASCOIGNE has been sectioned under the Mental Health Act following a disturbance at a Tyneside, England hotel on Wednesday (20Feb08). Gascoigne was detained after police received a report of disorderly behaviour at a hotel in his hometown of Gateshead. A police statement said: "Police attended the Hilton Hotel in Gateshead yesterday evening after we received a report of concern for a 40-year-old who was staying at the hotel. "The man was detained under the Mental Health Act and no one was injured during the incident." Gascoigne, the former captain for England's national team, was once regarded as one of the world's best soccer stars. His battle with alcoholism is well-documented. In 2005, Gascoigne was hospitalised with pneumonia and last year (07), he sparked fresh fears for his health after undergoing emergency surgery for a perforated stomach ulcer.
