ypassed this week by Academy members in their choice of Oscar nominees for best director, Ben Affleck was the winner of the director award presented by the 250-member Broadcast Film Critics Association at its Critics Choice awards ceremony Thursday night. Accepting the award for his work on Argo, in which he also starred, Affleck began by remarking, I would like to thank the Academy. ... Then, after the laughter died down, he continued, I'm kidding. Daniel Day-Lewis was the winner of the actors' trophy for his performance in the title role of Steven Spielberg's Lincoln, and Jessica Chastain won for her role as a CIA agent in Kathryn Bigelow's Zero Dark Thirty. In the comedy awards, it was a clean sweep for Silver Linings Playbook, which won for best comedy, best comedy actor (Bradley Cooper) and best comedy actress (Jennifer Lawrence). Quentin Tarantino received the original screenwriting award for Django Unchained, while Tony Kushner accepted the adapted screenplay award for Lincoln.
