Danny Boyle's critically acclaimed movie, set in the slums of Mumbai, India, beat out competition from The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, The Dark Knight, Frost/Nixon, and Milk.
Meanwhile, in TV, Tina Fey was named as one of the winners of the television-comedy prize for her producing role on hit show 30 Rock.
Mad Men's Matthew Weiner and Scott Hornbacher walked away with the prize for television-drama, while Simon Chinn-produced Man on Wire took home the documentary theatrical motion picture gong.
