Oscar celebrations were taking place in the congested streets of Garibnagar, the home of SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE's child stars, last night.

RUBINA ALI and AZHARUDDIN ISMAIL's relatives were awake at 04:00 local time to hear that the movie won eight Oscars.

Munni Qureshi, Rubina's mother, told the BBC: "I will go to the airport with a band of musicians and greet her. We are so happy for the children."

Neighbours Farha and Dilshaad told reporters they had been fasting in hope of award success for the film and planned to celebrate with breakfast.

SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE took the awards for best film, best adapted screenplay, best film editing and best cinematography.

Danny Boyle was recognised with the best director accolade.

The director arrived at the ceremony with some of the film's young cast and said they had been practising their English especially for the occasion.

"Some of the cast are from very poor backgrounds, it is wonderful to have them all here," he told E! reporters.
