Folk singer Maggie Boyle has died, aged 57.

She passed away on 6 November (14) following a battle with bowel cancer.

Boyle, a skilled flautist, released three solo albums throughout her 27-year career and preferred to work on collaborative projects with British songwriters John Renbourn, Bert Jansch and her former husband Steve Tilston.

She racked up more than 20 album credits to her name, including five discs made as part of folk trio Grace Notes, and also provided the vocals on the soundtrack for 1990s movies Patriot Games and Legends of the Fall.
