The 29 year old, who shot to fame on TV talent show Australian Idol and later joined girl group Young Divas, was slapped with the charge following a traffic stop in Sydney in March (15), when she tested positive for methylamphetamine.

She pleaded guilty in court on Friday (31Jul15) and was subsequently handed the driving ban. She was also fined $451 (£282).

Speaking after the sentencing, her manager Dave Wilkins said, "Unfortunately Kate has been suffering from addiction for quite a long time and right now she has relapsed and it is really unfortunate after all the hard work she has done to get herself back on track.

"We are going to be helping her as her family and her management all the way through to get to the conclusion of this and get her healthy."

The statements emerge a week after Wilkins claimed DeAraugo was preparing for a stint in rehab to address the relapse in her ongoing fight against substance abuse.
