Gospel singer James Fortune has apologised to family and friends following his arrest on Thursday (23Oct14) in Texas.
The Grammy-nominated artist was charged with aggravated assault of a family member and released on $20,000 (Gbp12,500) bond on Friday (24Oct14).
Fortune is now speaking out about the incident in a statement to AlwaysAList.com which reads: "I am truly sorry for the negative attention this situation has brought my wife, family, friends and business partners. Because it is a pending legal matter, I cannot comment on what has been reported.
"However, I understand the seriousness of this matter and ask that you respect the privacy of my family as we address this together... I would also like to thank my fans for their outpouring of love and support."
This isn't Fortune's first legal issue involving a family member - in 2002, he was charged with injury to child for burning his four-year-old stepson.
He pleaded guilty to the charge and completed a six-year deferred adjudication.
In 2012, a civil lawsuit was filed and subsequently dismissed.
