The 66-year-old lost her three-year battle with cancer in a Nashville, Tennessee hospice on Thursday (01Sep16).

Born Gail Zeiler, Jones started out as a singer/songwriter in the San Francisco Bay area, but relocated to Nashville in 1986 after her song I'm the One Mama Warned You About hit the country charts for Mickey Gilley.

She was a member of comedy country trio Ethel and the Shameless Hussies.

Her songs were recorded by Cledus T. Judd and David Allan Coe, among others, and she also tasted solo success with more than 12 albums showcasing her talents for melody and comedy.

Jones was also a record label boss forming IGO Records and Kinkajou with Kinky Friedman.
