Singer ADAN SANCHEZ, son of late balladeer MARCELINO 'CHALINO' SANCHEZ, has died in a car accident in northwestern Mexico. He was 19.

Adan Sanchez, a resident of Los Angeles, died on Saturday (27MAR04) after the car in which he was riding blew a tyre, lost control and rolled over in the state of Sinaloa, say police.

Two other people in the FORD sedan were taken to a hospital to be treated for injuries. Police say no other vehicles were involved.

Adan Sanchez had recorded nine albums of romantic ballads and tributes to his father.

Chalino Sanchez, a pistol-waving music legend, transformed traditional Mexican ballads into tough tales about criminals and drug traffickers. He was abducted and found dead in 1992.

At 19, Adan Sanchez already had a huge fan base in Mexico and America, where his songs are played on Spanish-language radio stations.

Funeral preparations are being made in Los Angeles.
