Jazz musician HERMAN RILEY has died of heart failure. He was 73.
The saxophonist passed away at Brotman Medical Center in Los Angeles on 14 April (07).
Born on 31 August 1933, Riley played with stars like Count Basie, Etta James and Jimmy Smith.
Jazz singer Lavay Smith, who first teamed up with Riley in the mid-1990s, says, "The way he played was everything I love about jazz. He was so unbelievably soulful."
A memorial service is being held at the Crenshaw Christian Center in Los Angeles at midday today (25Apr07).
