Imprisoned Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt has been granted release from jail to take care of his sick wife.
The actor was awarded a 30-day release on Friday (06Dec13) by Pune's Yerawada prison authorities in India after applying for temporary freedom because his wife, Maanyata Dutt, has been taken ill. Details of her health battle have not been made public.
Divisional commissioner Prabhakar Deshmukh writes in a statement, "The parole application was recommended by an Assistant Commissioner of Police in the Mumbai Police and the jail superintendent of Yerawada prison. Considering these recommendations, I have approved Dutt's parole for 30 days. The reason for seeking leave was his wife's illness."
Dutt was also granted parole in October (13) to seek treatment for a leg ailment.
The actor was sentenced to six years behind bars for buying weapons from bombers who were responsible for the 1993 terrorist attacks in Mumbai, India.
He was released on bail in 2007 after serving 18 months of his sentence, but returned to prison earlier this year (13) to complete his five-year jail stint after an appeal for his freedom was declined.
The film is almost half an hour longer than 'The Force Awakens'.
The film is expected to continue without Mendes' involvement.
