A Rwandan musician is facing trial for inciting mass murder during the 1994 genocide in the African nation. SIMON BIKINDI - Rwanda's biggest musical star at the time - is accused of spurring his fellow Hutus to violence by singing anti-Tutsi songs. He was also one of the founders of controversial radio station RTLM, which broadcast Hutu propaganda encouraging the ethnic group to slay their Tutsi neighbours. His lawyer WILFRED NDERITU says, "Bikindi's songs are innocent. To accuse him is to deny him his right of expression." The landmark trial at the International Criminal Tribunal For Rwanda starts today (11SEP06). More than 800,000 Tutsis and moderate Hutus were killed in just three months in 1994.
