Anderson Cooper is apparently being wooed by competing networks to change jobs. According to Deadline.com TV writer Nellie Andreeva, NBC is looking to replace Matt Lauer with Cooper on the Today show before the end of the year. Andreeva wrote that when Lauer learned of the plan, he contacted Cooper, who, said Andreeva, was caught by surprise, as he had assumed Lauer had been brought on board. NBC later today denied the report. And the Hollywood Reporter quoted sources close to Cooper as saying that he is not interested in trading globetrotting for 4 a.m. wake up calls. Another report has it that Cooper recently taped a pilot for a new talk show with Kathy Griffin for CNN. The two had drawn solid ratings and much publicity for their coverage of the annual Times Square New Year's Eve festivities. At Mediaite.com, columnist Joe Concha described the possibility of such a show as the worst idea in the history of cable news. Meanwhile, RadarOnline, citing a show insider, reported today (Wednesday) that Lauer feels that producers set him up to fail by assigning him the Jerry Sandusky story on Monday.
