Jamaican roots reggae stalwart Cedric Brooks has died after a long battle with diabetes.
The Jamaican saxophone player was 70 when he passed away on Friday (03May13) at a New York hospital.
Brooks began his music career in the late 1960s as a studio musician and performed with Burning Spear and trumpet player David Madden. He was also a member of ska supergroup The Skatalites.
The '12 Years A Slave' director will receive the accolade at the London Film Festival in October.
