Former British radio Dj Ray Teret has been jailed for 25 years for a series of sex attacks dating back to the 1960s.
The retired presenter, a former chauffeur and close friend of disgraced Tv star Sir Jimmy Savile, was last week (end07Dec14) found guilty of attacking eleven schoolgirls, some as young as 13, during the 1960s and '70s.
Teret, 73, was sentenced at Minshull Street Crown Court in Manchester, England on Thursday (11Dec14).
A number of his victims, who were in the public gallery at the sentencing, cheered and clapped as the jail term was read, and shouted "monster" as Teret was led out of the court. He showed no reaction.
The judge Mr Justice Baker said the 25-year sentence means Teret will likely spend the rest of his life in jail.
The judge told Teret, "It is clear that you exploited your celebrity status to sexually abuse young girls. Those who were raped had little or no understanding what was happening to them and felt they could do little to prevent the abuse taking place."
The shamed Dj was arrested in 2012 after several victims came forward in the wake of revelations Savile was a serial paedophile who had assaulted more than 400 children and young adults. Savile died in 2011 before the revelations came to light.
His new album Underneath It All is out now.
