According to the tragic Princess, whose tapes chronicling the demise of her marriage were broadcast on American television last week (ends6MAR04), Prince Charles was desperate to have a daughter and expressed his disappointment when she gave birth to their second son.
And the glamorous Princess - who says their relationship was at it's best during her second pregnancy - admits she closed her heart to the British heir to the throne after his unkind remarks.
She says, "First comment was, 'Oh God, it's a boy'. Second comment, 'Oh, and he's even got red hair'. So something inside me closed off.
"We were very, very, very close to each other six weeks before Harry was born. The closest we've ever, ever been and ever will have been.
"And then, suddenly, as Harry was born it just went bang, our marriage, the whole thing went down the drain. And Charles, all he wanted was a girl."
