Late British royal DIANA, PRINCESS OF WALES wanted to save her marriage with Prince Charles and didn't want a divorce, according to newly published material.
The Princess penned a handwritten note to butler Paul Burrell on the day her split with the future King was finally confirmed in 1996, fifteen years after the couple married in 1981.
Diana's note, written on 28 August 1996, said, "I never wanted a divorce. A part of me will always love Charles. How I wish he'd looked after me and been proud of my work.
"I want so much to become his best friend. I understand more than anyone what makes him tick.
"It has been a turbulent 15 years having to face the envy, jealousy and hatred from Charles's friends and family.
"They have misunderstood me. It has brought enormous heartache."
Diana's thoughts are revealed in Burrell's new book, A ROYAL DUTY. The butler also claims the princess once told him son WILLIAM didn't want to follow in his family's footsteps.
She said, "William doesn't want to be king."
