POST MORTEM frontman JOHN MCCARTHY has died at the age of 40.
The news was announced by guitarist John Alexander on the band's official MySpace.com internet blog on Wednesday (29Jan09).
No other details of MCCarthy's death were revealed as WENN went to press.
Alexander has paid tribute to his late colleague and revealed his deep shock at MCCarthy's sudden death.
He writes, "(MCCarthy) was/is one of my oldest friends. An interesting character with many great stories to tell, he will be missed.
"We had just finished recording the music for a new Post Mortem record (John wrote most of the words for it.) The vocals were not done and John was planning on doing his vocals in February. His goal of making another Post Mortem record has ended. This band was everything to him. I think we'll finish it up somehow and dedicate it to him."
The Boston, Massachusetts-based metal band formed in 1982 and has been releasing their music for over 20 years.
Many ticket-holders couldn't get into the O2 Arena show on Tuesday night (September 19th) because they didn't bring photo ID to match their booking.
An album re-release, a new song and a documentary mark the singer's legacy this year.
The film will be the first in the Marvel Cinematic Universe led by a person of colour.
The actor plays the titular hero in the forthcoming adaptation.
