World renowned pianist Anton Kuerti was taken to hospital after falling ill during a recital in Florida on Thursday (17Oct13).
The Canadian was performing at the Coral Gables Congregational Church in Miami when he became disorientated and started to repeatedly play the same piece.
One concerned concertgoer eventually went on stage to try and help before Kuerti was taken off stage and checked by paramedics. He was then whisked off to nearby South Miami Hospital in an ambulance.
Concert organiser Alan Penchansky says, "One of the audience members who's also a pianist actually went up to the stage to put his arm around him. He tried to find out what was wrong, and (Kuerti) started again. He simply was trapped."
As of Thursday night, Kuerti was under observation and undergoing tests. No further details of his condition have been released as Wenn goes to press.
