Oz The Great And Powerful has topped the U.S. box office chart after conjuring up an $80.3 million (£50.19 million) gross in its opening weekend (08-10Mar13).
The Wizard of Oz prequel, directed by Sam Raimi and starring James Franco, Mila Kunis, Michelle Williams and Rachel Weisz, scored the biggest debut of the year (13) so far, and proved to be a big hit internationally with a worldwide total of $150.2 million (£93.88 million).
The box office buzz will be good news for film studio bosses at Disney - the movie cost a whopping $215 million (£134.38 million) to make.
Oz The Great and Powerful easily toppled Jack the Giant Slayer, which paled in comparison with takings of $10 million (£6.25 million) in its second week on release.
Hit comedy Identity Thief still draws a crowd at three, while Colin Farrell's new thriller Dead Man Down enters at four and crime drama Snitch rounds out the top five.
