Ryan O'Neal's son Griffin has pleaded not guilty to drug and firearm possession charges and driving under the influence after crashing his car in August (11).
The 46 year old veered into oncoming traffic and collided with another car as he was driving through San Diego County, California, causing head and neck injuries to the other driver.
O'Neal is facing six felony and misdemeanour charges related to the incident, reports The San Diego Union Tribune.
Deputy District Attorney Vanessa DuVall stated in court on Thursday (06Oct11) that blood tests showed O'Neal had amphetamines, cocaine, marijuana and anti-anxiety drug Xanax in his system at the time of the accident, while loaded firearms were allegedly found in his vehicle.
Defence attorney Heather Boxeth claimed O'Neal had been trying to help his half-brother, Redmond O'Neal, who had been arrested on suspicion of heroin possession and violating probation after cops allegedly found heroin in his car earlier on the same day.
Griffin was on probation for a 2007 Dui conviction when the car collision occurred. He faces 11 years and six months in prison if convicted.
