Controversial new movie Of Good Report has beaten Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom to win South Africa's equivalent of a best picture Oscar.
The black and white movie, about a teacher's inappropriate relationship with a 16 year old pupil, triumphed at the eighth annual South African Film and Television Awards on Saturday (05Apr14).
Jahmil XT Qubeka's drama almost never made the cut after landing an official ban at last year's (13) Durban International Film Festival, when censors ruled the film could not be rated because it featured scenes of a sexual nature.
The decision was eventually overruled when it was discovered the young star of the film noir was of age.
As well as picking up Best Feature, Qubeka's movie also earned him the Best Director prize, while co-stars Mothusi Magano, Tshamano Sebe and Tina Jaxa claimed the ceremony's Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress awards, respectively.
The film will be the first in the Marvel Cinematic Universe led by a person of colour.
The actor plays the titular hero in the forthcoming adaptation.
Rock legend Eric Clapton has admitted the era of the guitar may be ''over''.
Following his success with 'The Force Awakens', the director will close out the trilogy.
