A Nike advertisement depicting embattled Paralympian Oscar Pistorius as a "bullet" has been pulled from the sportsman's website following his arrest for murder.
The South African athlete, dubbed Blade Runner because he sprints using carbon fibre prosthetic blades, has been charged with shooting his model girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp at his home in Pretoria in the early hours of Thursday (14Feb13).
In the aftermath of the headline-grabbing incident, Nike executives have scrapped two commercials featuring Pistorius - one of which bears the tagline, "I am the bullet in the chamber".
Pistorius has been a spokesman for Nike since 2008. A representative for the sports giant has declined to comment on the runner's future with the brand.
Seruscka Naidoo, a rep for Nike Sa, tells the Afp news agency, "We're not commenting on our sponsorship or relationship. At this moment, it's a matter that's being investigated. (There is an) issue at hand here which is much bigger than a sponsorship...
"From Nike we extend our condolences to everyone affected by this."
The 26 year old remains in custody and is due to appear in court on Friday (15Feb13).
