Nfl (National Football League) Films founder Ed Sabol has died aged 98.

Sabol passed away on Monday (09Feb15) at his home in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Sabol founded the production company in 1964, and helped professional football become a major player in U.S. sports television.

He is responsible for using music to soundtrack game highlight videos, wiring coaches, players, and referees for sound, ground-level slow-motion footage, and the popular 'Football Follies' blooper reels.

During his tenure at Nfl Films, from its inception until 1995, the company won 52 Emmy Awards.

He served as president until 1985 when his son, Steve, took over. Steve died in 2012, aged 69.

Sabol was also inducted to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2011.
