LATEST: Former NEIGHBOURS soap star SHANE CONNOR has confessed in court he injected amphetamines while appearing in the Australian show.
Connor - who played JOE SCULLY in the popular programme - is suing makers Grundy Television for compensation after he was sacked in September 2003.
Grundy claimed it had received complaints of Connor's rudeness, absenteeism, lateness and erratic behaviour which led to him being axed from the show in September 2003.
The 46-year-old actor admitted he occasionally arrived onset with a drug-induced hangover, but told Victoria Supreme Court in Melbourne yesterday (24OCT05) other castmembers often did the same.
He said, "I have seen many actors do that."
Connor said he refused the offer of drug counselling when Grundy executives became concerned about his drug use.
But he claims he apologised to bosses and colleagues, sought professional help and underwent weekly drug tests to "keep himself in check".
His behaviour reportedly improved until a series of incidents in September 2003 prompted his sacking.
Connor is seeking AUS$200,000 ($150,000/GBP83,000) in compensation for breach of contract.
