The FBI is investigating the hacking of NBC News's Twitter account on Friday by a group that posted false news reports claiming that a hijacked plane crashed into Ground Zero in New York. (The initial report read "Breaking News! Ground Zero has just been attacked. Flight 5736 has crashed into the site, suspected hijacking. more [sic] as the story develops." A few minutes later another report began with the words, "This is not a joke" and said that the network was trying to assign reporters to the scene. Finally, this boast "NBCNEWS hacked by The Script Kiddies. Follow them at @s_kiddies!" The same group had previously hacked Fox News's political Twitter account and reported that President Obama had been shot. NBC said on Saturday that only three NBC News executives have the password to the NBC News Twitter account. But an unidentified U.S. government official specializing in computer security was quoted by MSNBC.com as saying, "The truth is it's relatively easy to get into these [Twitter] accounts."
