Belizean musician ANDY PALACIO has died. He was 47. The singer/songwriter was a cultural activist in his native Belize, best known for helping to advance the music of the Garifuna people, who have descended from Central American natives and shipwrecked African slaves. He was the first artist from the Central American country to have a music video on international television. Palacio died on Saturday (19Jan08) due to respiratory failure after suffering a stroke and heart attack. He will be honoured with an official state funeral and a tribute concert will be held in Belize City on Friday (25Jan08).
'Smalls Change (Meditations Upon Ageing)' arrives in April.
The two awards have made for a great 72nd birthday present for the country music icon.
