Animated hit Mr. Peabody & Sherman has stunned film experts in the U.S. by jumping ahead of action films Need For Speed and 300: Rise Of An Empire to take over at the top of the box office.
The film debuted at two behind the 300 sequel last weekend (09Mar14), but it has enjoyed a surge this past week to swap spots with the historic action movie.
The film has made over $21 million (Gbp13.1 million) at the U.S. box office this weekend (14-16Mar14) to move into first place.
300: Rise of an Empire drops to two with a $19.1 million (Gbp12 million) second-weekend take, while Aaron Paul's Need For Speed, which was expected to debut at number one, underperformed to finish third with $17.8 million (Gbp11.1 million).
Liam Neeson's airline thriller Non-Stop and Tyler Perry's Single Mom's Club round out the new top five.
