Scottish singer/songwriter Michael Marra has died at the age of 60.
He passed away on Tuesday night (23Oct12) at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, Scotland after a long illness.
Born in 1952, Marra rose to fame in the 1980s as a solo performer, opening for acts including Van Morrison, The Proclaimers and Deacon Blue.
Marra became one of Scotland's most prolific songwriters and was also well known for his theatre work, penning the music for several plays and his own operetta.
Fellow Scottish singer Eddi Reader took to Twitter.com to pay tribute to Marra, writing, "God bless Michael Marra, songwriting Genius and wonderful, wonderful man. So kind to me, my heart is breaking dear God."
