The son of late painter Lucian Freud has lost his legal bid for a share in his father's fortune.
Freud, most famous for the painting nicknamed Big Sue, left $4 million (£2.5 million) and his London house to his assistant David Dawson when he died in 2011.
His remaining $67.2 million (£42 million) fortune was put in a trust fund, managed by Freud's daughter Rose Pearce and lawyer Diana Rawstron. The trustees would not disclose the instructions that were left with the will and one of the artist's sons, Paul, challenged the trust's legality at the High Court in London in May (14).
Paul's hopes of receiving a share of the fortune were dashed on Wednesday (30Jul14), when it was revealed he is not a beneficiary. The judge also ruled the contents of the will shall remain a secret.
Paul and Rose are two of the painter's fourteen children.
