Amour, Michael Haneke's bleak look at the deaths of an elderly loving couple, was the winner of the London Critics' Circle award for film of the year Sunday night. The film, which won the Palme D'Or at Cannes in May and is nominated for five Oscars, also won the best actress award for Emmanuelle Riva and the screenplay award for Haneke. Ang Lee took the director of the year award for Life of Pi, while Paul Thomas Anderson's The Master won the best actor and best supporting actor awards for Joaquin Phoenix and Philip Seymour Hoffman respectively. Anne Hathaway won the best supporting actress award for her performance in Les MisÃ©rables.
