British actress Liz Dawn is convinced her recent heart attack was a "blessing in disguise" because doctors can now properly manage her condition.

The 73-year-old Coronation Street star suffered a cardiac arrest in May (13), but she recovered well and is now taking medication to manage her heart problems.

Dawn now insists the health scare has given her a new lease of life and she is preparing to head off on a cruise vacation to boost her recovery.

She tells Britain's Sunday Mirror, "I am so happy and relieved to be on this medication for my heart. I feel so much better. In a way having the heart attack was a blessing in disguise because it means that the problem I had with my heart is now being managed. I feel stronger than I have in a long time. I am looking forward to a nice holiday after all that has happened in the past few weeks."

Dawn is also full of praise for the staff and doctors at the hospital in England where she was treated, adding, "I have a lot of praise for Wythenshawe Hospital, the staff there were very good."

The actress, who played Vera Duckworth in the long-running British Tv series, retired in 2008 after her character died of heart failure.
