LATEST: LITTLE RICHARD solved the funding problem for his free concert in his hometown of Macon, Georgia, by donating half his appearance fee towards the bill.

Mayor JACK ELLIS had asked local businesses to donate the estimated $75,000 (GBP41,500) needed to put on the show, but bosses argued they weren't given enough time to come up with the money.

The GOOD GOLLY MISS MOLLY hitmaker will reimburse $30,000 (GBP16,600) of his earnings, to prove his commitment to raising the profile of his native town.

He says, "It's not a whole lot of money, but it's from the heart."

Almost 5,000 people attended the concert free of charge on Saturday (08OCT05).
