Singer-songwriter Denny Doherty, formerly of iconic US band the Mamas and the Papas, has died at the age of 66.
The Canadian died at his home in Toronto after a short illness, his family said.
Doherty, Mama Cass Elliot and John and Michelle Phillips formed the Mamas and the Papas in 1965 after establishing themselves individually on the folk scene.
In the same year arguably their most well-known song California Dreamin' was released, but three years and four albums later they split up due to a breakdown of inter-band relationships; although they reformed in 1971 to release one last album.
Mama Cass Elliot died three years later aged 32 after a solo gig in London, and John Phillips died in 2001 at the age of 65.
His former wife Michelle Phillips is now the only surviving member of the group.
Two weeks ahead of Independent Venue Week, Dry Cleaning made 'Britain's Best Small Venue 2015' (NME) the second port of call on their 2020 tour.
