The tragic son of famed U.S. TV anchorman TED KOPPEL died from a lethal dose of alcohol, illegal and prescription drugs, according to a newly released report from the New York City medical examiner.
Andrew Koppel, son of the former Nightline host, passed away in the early hours of 31 May (10) following reports of an all-day drinking binge.
Paramedics were called to an apartment in Manhattan and pronounced the 40-year-old lawyer dead at the scene.
The medical report stated Koppel's cause of death as acute intoxication, due to the combined effects of alcohol, heroin, cocaine and the painkiller Valium.
The death has been ruled an accident.
