The Moranbong Band was set to perform at Beijing's National Centre for the Performing Arts but never took the stage.

Promoters claimed the gig was cancelled for unknown reasons, but sources tell China's Xinhua news agency the performance could not be staged due to "communication issues at the working level".

Kim Jong Un handpicked the members of the group in 2012, and the concert was billed as the band's first appearance outside of North Korea.
