Veteran rocker Kenney Jones is battling prostate cancer.
The drummer, who has played with The Who and the Faces, was given the bad news in September (13) and it came as a double blow because his mother was dying in hospital at the time.
He tells Britain's Daily Mail newspaper, "My lovely mum, who was 89, was dying in hospital, and I was diagnosed with prostate cancer... It's been a huge shock and and I had some dark moments."
Jones was offered an innovative treatment called brachytherapy, a form of internal radiotherapy, in January (14), and he appears to be on the road to recovery. He is now focusing on raising awareness of the disease and encouraging men to have regular check-ups.
He adds, "I want to increase awareness - a man dies of prostate cancer every hour in the U.K... Now is the time for me to enjoy my wife and family in a more relaxed way. I intend to live to a ripe old age."
The film is almost half an hour longer than 'The Force Awakens'.
The film is expected to continue without Mendes' involvement.
