Singer Ke$Ha was gravely ill when she checked into a rehab facility for an eating disorder earlier this month (Jan14), according to her mum.
The Tik Tok hitmaker entered the Timberline Knolls clinic in Illinois just after the new year and her mother, Pebe Sebert, explains she could have died if she had waited any longer.
She tells People magazine, "(Doctors) told me her blood pressure and sodium were so low they'd never seen that, except with someone who'd had a heart attack. They'd said it was a miracle she hadn't already dropped dead onstage."
Sebert explains the singer has been battling anorexia and bulimia for years, but kept the issues secret until December (13).
She continues, "She had a breakdown. She called me from the gas station and admitted how much she'd been throwing up... I just said, 'Ok,' and called some (treatment) centres. Ke$ha agreed to talk to them, liked what they said and basically cried until we got her there."
Ke$ha initially announced she would be in the rehab facility for 30 days, but Sebert reveals her stay will most likely be longer.
She says, "(Doctors) don't think she's going to be ready in 30 days. She's going to be in there for a while."
After reports surfaced Ke$ha was in rehab, rumours suggested she was also battling alcohol addiction, but Sebert insists the singer was barely drinking as her eating disorders got worse.
She continues, "As a recovering alcoholic, I know what that looks like. She barely even drinks anymore. The more serious the eating disorder got, the more she didn't drink, because it was empty calories she didn't want."
Meanwhile, Sebert has checked herself into the treatment centre where her daughter is a patient in a bid to deal with her post-traumatic stress disorder.
She says, "Ke$ha wants me to heal along with her."
