British pop star Jimmy Somerville has been shortlisted for a leading honour at the 2014 Scottish Music Awards.

The former Bronski Beat and The Communards frontman is nominated for the special People Make Glasgow honour in recognition of the positive publicity the Scottish city has received via its connection with the singer.

Glasgow-born Somerville will also perform at the event, which takes place in the city on 29 November (14) and raises money for Scotland's Nordoff Robbins Music Therapy charity.

Previous winners of the People Make Glasgow award include Orange Juice frontman Edwyn Collins, pop band Wet Wet Wet, and Texas frontwoman Sharleen Spiteri.
