Director Jeff Nichols' drama Take Shelter won the top honour at the prestigious Deauville American Film Festival's close on Saturday (10Sep11).
The film, starring Michael Shannon and Jessica Chastain, saw off competition from 13 other entries to win the grand prize at the showcase in Deauville, France.
French filmmaker Olivier Assayas, who headed the jury, praised Nichols as he presented him the accolade, insisting, "He's a young filmmaker who is working on his third movie, writes admirably well for the cinema and is a wonderful actors' director."
Chastain won the New Hollywood trophy at the start of the festival, while veteran actress Shirley MacLaine and actor Danny Glover were also feted this week (ends11Sep11).
Perry performed 'Rise' and 'Roar' before Clinton accepted the nomination to be the Democrats' presidential candidate.
