Whiplash star J.K. Simmons picked up 2015's first Golden Globe Award in Beverly Hills on Sunday night (11Jan15) when he was named Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture for his role in the acclaimed drama.

The actor thanked his wife for their "above average" kids during his acceptance speech.

Meanwhile, Fifty Shades of Grey co-stars Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan made their stage debut together to present the Best Supporting Actress in a Tv series to shocked Downton Abbey star Joanne Froggatt.

The first-time nominee thanked Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes for "giving me the responsibility of this storyline", revealing she received letters from survivors of rape after her most challenging episode aired, adding, "One woman summed up the thoughts of many by saying she wasn't sure why she'd written, but she just felt in some way she wanted to be heard, and I just wanted to say, 'I heard you', and I hope saying this so publicly means in some way you feel the world heard you."

The 72nd Golden Globes are being held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
