With kids out of school for spring break in many parts of the country, DreamWorks Animation's The Croods is expected to have little difficulty taking over the top spot at the box office this weekend. Tracking studies indicate that the 3D film, which reportedly cost about $135 million to produce, will wind up with around $40-45 million. Warner Bros.' Oz the Great and Powerful, which has held the No. 1 position during the previous two weekends, is expected to battle the Anton Fuqua thriller Olympus Has Fallen for second place with around $15-20 million. A third new film, the Tina Fey/Paul Rudd-starrer Admission is widely expected to receive a failing grade, with about $6-8 million. A cipher at the box office on this spring-break weekend is Spring Breakers, starring James Franco, Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens, which is depending on social media for promotion. Although it opened in three theaters with an amazing $87,667 average, box office forecasters say it will probably wind up with around $5-7 million. Overall, the top ten films at the box office together are not likely to come near equaling the $152.5 million that The Hunger Games alone brought in over the same weekend a year ago.
